Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Surely it is cheaper to go direct to a local process server?

No. Infact in a number of cases it is more expensive. Due to the volume of work we receive, all of our process servers are on specially discounted rates with us. If you ring around you should find our prices are about average. However, by using our services you don't have to call around obtaining prices, constantly chasing updates, and worrying about just how knowledgeable your process server really is. You get a fixed fee each time, one point of contact, and the re-assurance that we know what we are doing!

Furthermore, clients using our services on a regular basis can make huge savings through our Discount Scheme.

Q. Who can be a process server?

Quite worryingly, anyone can. You do not need any qualifications or experience, and there are no checks made. Anyone can set up business tomorrow, advertise their services, and have no knowledge of what is required of them. And unfortunately you usually do not find out until it is too late. This is why finding a process server can be a minefield, as an inexperienced process server can cost you (or your client) a fortune in court fees and solicitors time if documents are served incorrectly.

Q. Are there set fees a process server should charge?

No. As an unlicensed industry there are no fees set by which we abide. This is why there can be a great variation in the fees quoted by different process servers. Solicitors are obliged to act 'in their clients best interests' at all times, but they should be mindful that the lowest quote is not necessarily the best option - not only could you be stung by additional charges which the process server 'forgot to mention', but agents who profess to cover large areas for very small fees are likely to only give the minimum amount of effort in serving your documents, meaning a large quantity can be returned to you as unserved - and with a bill!

A good process server knows that their job involves long hours, multiple attendances to effect good service, and has the relevant experience and knowledge to effect service in accordance with the relevant rules. They will charge a fair fee for the level of work which is involved.

Beware also of firms charging hourly rates - it is amazing how quickly your costs can escalate when 2 or 3 attendances are required!

Q. Do I have to send payment with my instruction?

No. You will be invoiced upon completion, for payment within 30 days. We offer extended payment terms of 60 days in legally aided cases.

Q. Can you deal with urgent cases?

Yes, although you must always telephone us prior to sending to ensure agent availability in your service area. We have successfully served with as little as one hours notice on previous assignments.
